The Juris Doctor (JD) degree is a traditional law school program that is designed to prepare students for entry into the legal field, particularly the practice of law in the State of California and within the Federal Court System.

State Bar Admissions Requirements
We often enroll students from out of state and one of the questions they often ask is whether or not they can practice in their respective state. The answer to this is addressed by the National Conference of Bar Examiners through a comprehensive Guide to Bar Admission Requirements.
The 2018 ABA’s State Bar Admissions Requirements Guide provides annually updated information on bar admission requirements in all U.S. jurisdictions, including a directory of state bar admission agencies. It is published in collaboration with the American Bar Association.

Program Overview
- Prepare students for the basic professional degree in law.

Entry Requirements for the JD Program The JD requires a minimum of 60 semester units or no more than 90 quarter units.
The J.D. Degree programs adhere to the California State Bar Pre-Legal Education Regulations under Title 4 Admissions and Educational Standards. Chapter 3. Required Education Rule 4.25 General Education in determining the qualifications of those applicants who plan to attend law school and become members of the California Bar.

Completion of a professional law degree program at this law school other than for the Juris Doctor degree does not qualify a student to take the California Bar Examination or to satisfy the requirements for admission to practice law in California. It may not qualify a student to take the bar examination or to satisfy the requirements for admission to the practice of law in any other jurisdiction. A student intending to seek admission to practice law should contact the admitting authority in the jurisdictions where the student intends to seek to qualify to sit for the bar examination or for admission to practice for information regarding the legal education requirements in that jurisdiction for admission to the practice of law.
Students looking to transfer to AHUSOL must meet the following:
- California Business and Professions Code § 6060(h): Successfully pass the First-Year Law Students’ Examination within three (3) administrations after becoming eligible from previous law school or have been exempted (transferred from an ABA or Committee accredited school) to continue their studies at our institution.
- Credit Evaluation from the State Bar: A transfer student must have their credit evaluated by the State Bar of California to determine how many study hours required
- Complete at least one Year of Studies: Transfer students must complete a minimum of one year (12 months or 864 hours of study) at AHUSOL. Student may be required to take elective courses
- Meet Required Courses: Satisfactory completion of the following *courses (from previously attended law school and/or at AHUSOL):
